WINDSOR, Ont. (November 21, 2009) – Led by Becky Conroy's three point effort, the No. 7 Queen's Gaels defeated the Windsor Lancers by a score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Conroy of Pembroke, Ont., who scored two goals and added an assist in the game, currently leads in the OUA in scoring with 18 points in 11 games.

The first period was a wild affair as the two teams combined to score three goals in the first seven and a half minutes of action. Manon Davis opened the scoring for the Lancers just 1:18 into the period when she beat Gaels goalie Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsville, Ont., for her ninth of the season.

Queen's would respond quickly and tied the game less than two minutes later when rookie Alana Smith of Aurora, Ont., scored her first career OUA goal. Conroy, who assisted on the opening goal, scored her first of the contest before the game was eight minutes old to put the Gaels in front.

From there, both Dodd-Moher and Jamie Tessier of Windsor stepped up their play and kept the score 2-1 after two periods of play.

The Gaels would add an insurance marker early in the third period as Conroy scored her 11th goal of the season on the powerplay.

Dodd-Moher turned aside 24 shots for the win while Tessier stopped 37 in defeat.

With the win, the Gaels improve to 8-2-1 on the season while the Lancers fall to 4-7-0.

Queen's went 1 for 7 on the powerplay while Windsor was held without a powerplay goal, going 0 for 4.

The Gaels will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel up the 401 to London to take on the Western Mustangs. Puck drop is set for 2:00 pm.
