WINDSOR, Ont. (November 15, 2009) – The Queen's Gaels men's volleyball team rebounded from their second loss of the season Saturday with a straight sets victory over the Windsor Lancers on Sunday afternoon.
Play was tight in the first set with back and forth scoring. With the game tied 19-19, Queen's picked up their offensive play for a series of quick points which allowed them to win the game 25-20.
In set two, the Gaels used their speed to get an early lead on the Lancers. Despite falling behind, Windsor continued to pressure Queen's both offensively and defensively. However, the Gaels held tough and pulled out a 25-22 set win.
Windsor started the third set strong and took an early lead. Ready to complete the sweep, Queen's battled back and began to take control of the game. Both teams competed in some fierce rallies as the score remained tight until the very end. In the end, the Gaels won the final game 25-21.
Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., was named man of the match for the Gaels as he had 16 kills, three aces, four digs and one stuff block.
The Gaels return home next weekend to take on the Ryerson Rams and the Toronto Varsity Blues.
