KINGSTON, Ont. (October 4th, 2009) – Cathleen Brennan, of Aurora Ont., scored a clutch second half goal to lead the Queen's women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Ryerson Rams Sunday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

The first half started in a virtual stale mate with a strong defensive effort by the Gaels' fullbacks. Queen's keeper Elena Corry, of Hamilton Ont., showed she was not going to let in any easy goals and provided a strong first half.

The second half saw Queen's offense start to slowly wear down the Rams defence. In the 59th minute, Jen Hutchinson, of St. John's Nfld., broke down the sideline and cross the ball to an open Brennan who tapped it into the back of the net. This broke the tie, and left the Gaels with a 1-0 win over the Rams.

With the win the Gaels now have an 8-1-1 record and are in second place of the OUA East, just a single point behind the Ottawa Gee Gees for first place. Ottawa's record currently sits at 8-1-2 having played one additional game.

Next week the Gaels travel to North Bay, Ont. to play the seventh place Nipissing Lakers on October 9th.
