Gaels lose back and forth match to Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ont. (October 30, 2009) – The Queen's women's volleyball (2-1) team lost a close five set match to the Ottawa Gee Gees (1-2) on Friday night.

After losing the first set 25-22, the Gaels bounced back to take the second set 25-22. With the third set tied, Ottawa's middle Joanie Beauregard-Veillette was successful in earning points on ten consecutive serves to give the Gee Gees the third set 25-16.

The Gaels refused to quit and worked hard in the fourth set, winning it by a score of 25-21 to force a fifth set. With the Gaels posed to take the match, up 13-11 in the fifth, Ottawa won four straight points to win the game.

Lorna Button of Newcastle, Ont., was one of the top performers on the night for Queen's, picking up 10 kills, three service aces, 13 digs and 13 points. Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont., also had 13 points off of 12 kills. She also recorded eight digs in the game.

The Gaels will look to rebound from their first loss of the season when they travel to Ottawa to take on the York Lions on Sunday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
