KINGSTON, ONT. (October 24, 2009) –
Joren Zeeman (Cambridge, Ont.) put away 14 kills and three aces to help the Gaels recover from a lost first game to win 3-1 over the visiting Guelph Gryphons Saturday afternoon.
The Gaels started a little slow, losing the first game 25-20 to Guelph. That didn't continue long, as the Gaels won the next two sets 25-19. The fourth and final set saw the Gaels build an early lead and hold on for a 25-18 victory in the match.
Zeeman was the center of the Gaels attack, receiving support from
Jackson Dakin (Courtenay, B.C.) who chipped in 38 set assists.
Michael Amoroso (Toronto, Ont.) also had a solid game, claiming three kills, three aces, and two blocks.
Guelph (0-1) was led by Winston Rosser who had 14 kills and an ace, while Riley McAllister had 35 set assists in the cause.
The Gaels (1-0) continue their opening weekend on Sunday against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Game is scheduled for 3:00pm in Bartlett Gym on Queen's University Campus
