KINGSTON, Ont. (October 21, 2009) – Thanks to two goals from
Renee MacLellan of Kingston, Ont., the No. 3-ranked Queen's women's soccer team defeated the RMC Paladins by a score of 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The win extended the Gaels unbeaten streak to 13 games and their shutout streak to nine games.
After a back-and-forth affair through the first 15 minutes, the Gaels took control of the game, scoring three times in a span of nine minutes. Off a corner in the 17th minute,
Angela Sullivan of Scarborough, Ont., opened the scoring when she found a loose ball and buried it past the RMC keeper.
From there, MacLellan took over the Gaels attack, scoring twice in a one minute span. First, she found the back of the net off another corner and then, off a misplayed ball by the RMC defence, she scored into an open net.
With the lead comfortably in hand to start the second half, Queen's continued to control the pace of play and were rewarded with two more goals.
Jennifer Hutchinson of St. John's, Nfld., scored in the 53rd minute before rookie
Lisa Bache of Burlington, Ont., rounded out scoring in the 88th minute.
Keeper
Chantel Marson of London, Ont. made 1 save in the win.
The Gaels will round out their regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Ottawa to battle the Carleton Ravens. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
