KINGSTON, Ont. (October 21, 2009) – Rookie
Jason Zelt of Kingston, Ont., scored the first two goals of his CIS career in the first half to help propel the Queen's men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over RMC on Wednesday evening.
The victory was the fifth straight for the No. 10-ranked Gaels who have only allowed one goal in those five contests.
Zelt would open the scoring just three minutes into the game when a loose ball off a corner kick found its way to the top of the box. He gathered the ball and buried it past the RMC keeper to give Queen's a 1-0 lead.
The rookie defender would strike again late in the half when his shot took a crazy deflection off an RMC defender, looped over the keeper's head, hit the cross bar and fell into the net.
From there, the Gaels were able to cruise as
Jordan Brooks of Angus, Ont., and
Nathan Klemencic of Trenton, Ont., scored five minutes apart early in the second half to seal the win.
Queen's keeper
Sean Martin-Courtright of Calgary, Alta., made three saves for the shutout.
The Gaels wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Ottawa to take on the Carleton Ravens. Game time is set for 3:15 pm.
