McGill spoils home opener for Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont., (October 18, 2009) – The Queen's men's hockey team (1-1-0) dropped their home opener, falling to the McGill Redmen (2-0-0) 5-1 in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) hockey action.

Francis Verreault-Paul of Mashteviatsh, Que., led the way for the Redmen with three points, netting two goals in the second period to break the game open. Verreault-Paul added an assist 28 seconds into the third on Marc-Andre Dorion of St. Hubert, Que., first goal of the season.

The Gaels saw first-year forward Jordan Mirwaldt of Winnipeg score his second goal of the season. Scott Kenway of Calgary, and rookie Payton Liske of Welland, Ont., recorded assists on the Gaels lone goal.

Queen's sported new alternate third jerseys in their opening game which are predominantly red with the 'Q' logo on the front.
