KINGSTON Ont. (October 16, 2009) -
Nathan Klemencic of Trenton Ont. handled all the scoring for Queen's in a 2-1 victory over the Carleton Ravens Friday afternoon at Richardson Stadium in OUA men's soccer.
Carleton took an early lead with a breakaway from Raven striker Jonni Okai of Ottawa. A soft chip over keeper
Sean Martin Courtright of Calgary left the Gaels down by one.
Partway through the first half, Klemencic found the back of the net to tie the game scoring on a strong shot through traffic. The later minutes of the first half allowed the Gaels to show their offensive pressure with five corner kicks.
In the second half, the game was a virtual stale mate with Klemencic scoring in the final minutes of the game, tapping a loose ball over the goal line
The win moves Queen's to a 7-1-4 record placing them just four points behind the east division leading Toronto Varsity Blues.
Queen's will play the
Ottawa Fury under 16/17 on Sunday at 3pm in a friendly match-up. They return to OUA league action this coming Wednesday hosting Royal Military College at Richardson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:15pm.
