TORONTO (October 11, 2009) – Rookie Brittany McHaffie of Cambridge, Ont., scored the game winning goal to lift the Queen's Gaels to a 6-5 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women's hockey on Sunday in Toronto.

McHaffie netted her first career goal with 7:49 left to play in regulation completing a come-from-behind win against the Varsity Blues. Heading into the third period the Gaels were down by a single goal but Becky Conroy of Pembroke, Ont., scored the tying goal in the opening five-minutes of the third period and also set up McHaffie on the game winning goal.

Karissa Savaga of Calgary secured her first win of the season making 33 saves in the victory.

Twin sister Morgan McHaffie of Cambridge, Ont. also netted her first career goal. Other scorers from Queen's included Alison Bagg of Kingston, Ont., Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont., and Shelby Aitcheson of London, Ont. Conroy, Bagg and Thomson each had a goal and two assists.

Queen's returns to Kingston for their home opener set for next Friday (October 16) against the Guelph Gryphons. The puck drops at 7:30pm at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
