Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont., recorded his third straight double-double to lead the Gaels in a thrilling 72-68 comeback victory over the York Lions inside Bartlett Gymnasium.
Leger poured in 25 points 17 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Queen's found themselves down by nine points heading into the fourth quarter but rallied behind their leading scorer and took the lead late.
First year Arts and Science major Benard Burgessen of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., finished strong for the Gaels posting eight of his 11points in the final frame including a three pointer to give the Gaels a five point lead with under one minute to play.
York's leading scorer was Tut Ruach of Mississauga, Ont. who finished with 20 points. The Lions had numerous chances to break the game open in the second half but failed at the free-throw line going 10 for 23 in the game at hit only one in the second half.
Despite taking 21 fouls throughout the contest the Gaels walk away with their third straight victory and move to the .500 mark (5-5) and sit in a tie for fourth place with Ryerson. Queen's will look to continue their streak Saturday evening as they take on the Guelph Gryphons. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm. Tickets are available at the door.
