Kingston, Ont. (January 9, 2009) – The Queen's Gaels men's hockey team returned to the ice opening the second half of the OUA regular season dropping 1-0 hard-fought loss to the No. 5 ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves.
Queen's netminder
Brady Morrison of Thamesville, Ont. turned aside 34 shots improving his save percentage to .935 and moving his goals against average to a mere 2.35 per game.
Lakehead's lone goal came from a long shot by Andrew Brown of Bancroft, Ont., at 8:42 of the second assisted by Dan Speer of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Brock McPherson of Brampton, Ont.
Queen's outshot Lakehead 38-35 in the game and Lakehead netminder Chris Whitley of Oshawa, Ont., earned the shutout. The two goalies were the difference in the game with both making critical saves when needed to keep the game close. In the third, with the Gaels down 1-0, Queen's picked up its play with Whitley making 16 stops to preserve the shutout.
Queen's was 0-4 with the man advantage while Lakehead was 0-2.
Queen's record sits at 6-10-2 in OUA play while Lakehead improves to 12-3-2 in OUA play.
