Struggles continue for men’s basketball

Kingston, Ont. (January 31, 2009) – Queen's men's basketball's woes continued on Saturday extending their losing streak to six games by dropping a 69-63 decision to the Toronto Varsity Blues.

Toronto Varsity Blues' point guard Anthony Degiorgio of Toronto was the games top scorer dropping 18 points while hitting four three pointers.

The Gaels held a two point lead going into the half, but Toronto exploded for 23 points in the third frame earning the lead and never relinquishing from that point on.

Nick DiDonato of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. and Rob Shaw of Toronto boasted the Gaels top point totals each scoring 11. Forward Scott Stinson of North Bay, Ont. pulled down a game high 13 rebounds and picked up another six points offensively. He was a perfect four-for-four from the free throw line. Offensively, all 10 players who dressed contributed at least two points or more for the Gaels.

The loss drops the Gaels record to 6-11 while Toronto moves to 12-5. Queen's maintains its hold on fifth place in the OUA East Division while Toronto is in third place. Queen's concludes its 2008-09 home schedule with a 5-6 record inside Bartlett Gymnasium. The Gaels have five games remaining in the 2008-09 season albeit all on the road.

Next Friday, Queen's will travel to Sudbury to battle Laurentian who have already been eliminated from post season play. Game time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
