Mustangs have Gaels number

London, Ont. (January 31, 2009) – Queen's men's volleyball four game winning streak was halted on Saturday as they were defeated 3-1 by the Western Mustangs.

Falling in four sets, (23-25, 25-23, 21-25, 18-25) Western moves into a tie with the Gaels for second place in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and takes the head to head tiebreaker with two wins over the Gaels including a 3-2 win in Kingston, Ont., on October 25, 2008.

Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., led the Gaels with 10 kills, and two aces for 13 points. Bryan Faultey of Oakville, Ont., and Niko Rukavina of Mississauga, Ont., both hit double digs in the loss with 11 points respectively.

Western was led by Eric Simon of London, Ont., who hit 15 kills, for 17 points. Reid Halpenny of Exeter, Ont., Nadan Omercajic of London, Ont., and Dan Miller of St. Marys, Ont., all had 11 points for the Mustangs.

In other OUA men's volleyball action, the McMaster Maruaders were able to retake first place by topping Ryerson in straight sets after faltering against Toronto on Friday. Entering play on Saturday, the Gaels were tied atop the OUA standings. Currently McMaster sits in first place with 30 points while Queen's and Western have 28 points each.

Queen's have two games remaining in the regular season and return home next weekend to face Toronto on Friday. They also face the Ryerson Rams on Saturday. Both games are scheduled as double-headers with the women's teams. The women' will hit the court at 6:00pm followed by the men at 8:00pm both evenings.
