Kingston, Ont. (January 30, 2009) – The Gaels held Ryerson to just three points in the fourth quarter but it was too little to late as the Queen's men's basketball team were defeated 78-60 by the Ryerson Rams on Friday.
Ryerson exploded for 55 points in the first half. They were led by Boris Bakovic of Toronto who produced 26 points in the first half and in doing so became Ryerson's all-time leading scorer. Bakovic finished with a game high 36 points in just three quarters of play.
Dan Bannister of Newmarket, Ont., netted a team leading 16 points for the Gaels, while
Nick DiDonato of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., hit 10.
Queen's managed to battled back in the second half despite being down 27 points. Rookie forward
Bernard Burgesson of Port Hawkesbury, N.S. had a game high nine rebounds before fouling out in the fourth.
The Gaels have now lost their last five games but still hold on to a OUA East Division playoff position with just five games remaining. With the win Ryerson holds an eight point advantage for fourth place over the Gaels.
On Saturday, Queen's will play their final home game of the 2008-09 regular season against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Toronto currently holds a five game winning streak.
