Queen’s defeated by Carleton 100-75

Kingston, Ont. (January 24, 2009) – Queen's losing streak was extended to four games as they fell 100-75 to the Carleton Ravens in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) men's basketball action on Saturday.

Carleton led the game from opening whistle to closing, leading by 13 points, after the first quarter 27-14. The Gaels put together a solid second quarter, in which they matched Carleton point for point losing the second frame by one point 28-27.

In the second half, Carleton pulled away in the third quarter posting 22 points to Queen's 12. Queen's managed to outscore the Ravens in the fourth 22-19 finishing the scoring at 100-75.

Third-year guard, Baris Ondul of Istanbul, Turkey tallied 17 points including six points in the loss. Dan Bannister of Newmarket, Ont., finished with 15 and Tim Boyle of Belleville, Ont. had 10.

A trio of Kingston natives had top games for the Ravens with Stuart Turnbull leading the way with 23 points and seven rebounds. Aaron Doornekamp of Odessa, Ont. added 21 while Rob Saunders of Kingston notched 11 points.

The win extends Carleton's winning streak to 13 games and they sit tied for first place with Ottawa.

With seven games to play, Queen's (6-9) is in fifth place in the OUA East with 12 points. The Gaels are six points behind Ryerson and four points ahead of York. Next week Queen's hosts Ryerson on Friday and Toronto on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 8:00pm.
