Kingston, Ont. (January 23, 2009) – Jon Lawrance of Stienbach, Man., and Pat Doyle of Smiths Falls, Ont., scored in the shootout as the Queen's men's hockey team defeated rival Royal Military College (RMC) 4-3.
Doyle also scored in regulation helping the Gaels snap a five-game losing streak which extended back to November 29 against Concordia. The victory puts Queen's four points ahead of RMC in the standings of the OUA Mid East. The Gaels remain six points behind Toronto for first place in the Mid East.
Also scoring for Queen's was David Chubb of St. George, Nfld., and Jarrod Thomson of Hamilton. Brady Morrison of Thamesville, Ont., recorded the victory stopping 42 shots including six in the over-time frame and all three in the shoot-out.
Calgary natives Richard Lim and Paul Bradley netted the goals for RMC. Lim would score twice in the first while Bradley would tie the game up at the 9:55 mark of the third period.
The oldest hockey rivalry continues as Queen's and RMC square off twice more before the season ends. Their next meeting will be February 7th in the annual Carr-Harris Cup Challenge - this year the event will be a part of Kingston Feb Fest activities.
The Gaels have the remainder of the weekend off and will play this coming Wednesday against the Carelton Ravens in Ottawa at 7:30pm.
