Toronto (January 17, 2009) - The Ryerson Rams handed the Queen`s men`s basketball their second loss in a row 82-65 on Saturday. The loss drops the Gaels to fifth place in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) while the Rams still occupied fourth place with the win.
Queen's found themselves behind 27 points after a disastrous first half where they scored 11 points in the first and a season low fives points in the second quarter. Gaels managed to respond with 49 in the second half but it was to late to recover.
Dan Bannister of Newmarket, Ont., notched a team high 26 points while Nick DiDonato produced 14 points in the loss. Queen`s was without team leading scorer Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont. who was injured in Friday`s game against the University of Toronto.
Rams forward Boris Bakovic of Toronto finished with a game high 31 points.
Queen`s falls to 6-7 on the season and is in fifth in the OUA East. Queen`s returns home to face Ottawa next weekend. Ottawa and Carleton are tied for first in the OUA East with a record of 11-1. Both games are scheduled for 8:00pm in the Bartlett Gymnasium. Tickets are available at 613.533.2500.
