Kingston, Ont. (January 10, 2009) – Queen's fell 3-0 to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in women's hockey on Saturday at the Kingston Memorial Centre.

Emma Thompson of Hastings, Ont. pitched UOIT's first shutout in the women's hockey program's history turning aside 32 shots. UOIT joined the OUA just last season in 2007-08.

Gaels netminder Melissa John made 19 saves allowing just two goals in the loss. 

UOIT's Melissa Bell of Cobourg, Ont., and Kara Carter of Whitby, Ont., both scored even-strength goals, while Jackie McArthur of Oshawa, Ont., potted an empty netter to seal the 3-0 victory.

With the victory the Ridgebacks skate away with the season series posting a 2-1 record over Queen's this year. The Gaels were outscored in the season series 10-4.

Queen's record sits at 9-6-1 and are tied for third place with the University of Toronto with 19 points. UOIT record moves to 3-14.

Next week the Gaels will face off against York in back-to-back home games against the Lions. The match-ups will be played on Friday at 7:30pm and Saturday at 2:30pm.
