Gaels come up short at Carleton

SOCCER (M/W):  GAELS COME UP SHORT AT CARLETON

 

Ottawa (September 7, 2008) – Mike Arnold of London, Ont. scored twice but it wasn't enough as the Carleton Ravens topped the Queen's men's soccer 3-2 on Sunday in Ottawa. With the win, Carleton extended their OUA East regular season unbeaten streak to 28 games.

 

Goaltender Tyler Lewis of Maple Ridge, B.C. was a key member of the Gaels defence stopping several Raven chances.   Arnold opened the scoring converting a penalty kick at the 26 minute and then added a game tying goal at the 55th minute of the game.

 

Carleton recorded a goal at the 38th minute when Matt D'Angelo scored on a rebound on a penalty kick.  Just two minutes later Carleton converted a second penalty kick when Roberto Gutierrez of Ottawa notched his first of the season giving the Ravens a 2-1 heading into the half.

 

With the scored tied, Peter Mangiras of Belleville, Ontario accepted a cross-pass from Andrew Park of Sudbury, Ont. to score in the 75th minute.   

 

Queen's record sits at 1-1 to start the season and will play its next game against Nipissing Saturday September 13th

 

In the women's game the Gaels were shutout by a score of 2-0. Carleton scorers were Amanda Ngwafusi of Ottawa and Aisha Stinson, Ottawa the Gales record is now 1-1 and will play Saturday September 13th on the road at Nipissing.
