SOCCER (M) - GAELS OPEN WITH VICTORY OVER TRENT

Kingston, Ont. (September 6, 2008) – Queen's men's soccer started off the regular season with a dominating performance.  Keeping the ball in the offensive zone for most of the contest the Gaels defeated the Trent Excalibur 2-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Gaels got onto the scoreboard first and in odd fashion scoring without the use of their feet. Andrew Nador of Kingston, Ont. threw in from the sideline across the field where Graeme Webber of Vancouver, B.C., headed the ball into the Trent goal which put Queen's up 1-0.

Trent was pushed back into their zone soon after the goal and never got any offensive pressure in the first half. Dan Mcbride of Kingston, Ont. added the Gaels second goal of the game at 18:47 on a cross-field kick.

The second half had a turn of events as it was Trent who came out and with the pressure led by the play of Aziel Bailey of Ajax, Ont. Trent got onto the board at the 27:45 minute of the second when Thaddeus BolTen of Bowmanville, Ont. stole the ball from the Gaels defender and put it off the post and in for the Excalibur's only goal.

The Gaels will travel to Ottawa tomorrow to take on the Carleton Ravens.  The Ravens are on a 26-game regular season winning streak going back to September 10, 2006. The Gaels were the team that defeated the Ravens that day by a score of 2-1 and look for a repeat performance in hopes to play spoiler and end this impressive streak the Ravens have put together.

Game time is schedule for 1:00pm, while the women take the field at 3:15pm.
