Montreal (September 12, 2008) – Queen's women's field hockey kicked off the regular season playing a doubleheader on Friday afternoon earning the split in Montreal.
In the opening game, Queen's battled hard but were narrowly defeated by McGill 1-0. McGill's Dewi Krop of Wassenaar, Netherlands was the lone scorer in the contest.
During the afternoon match-up, the Gaels scored three quick first half goals against the Carleton Ravens en route to a 4-0 victory. Gaels scorers were Casey Tulk of Kingston, Ont., Gillian Lester of Peterborough, Ont., Madelaine Gordon of Gananoque, Ont. and Danielle Denley of Victoria, B.C.
The team is aiming to improve on their 7-6-1 record from last season which earned them a fifth place in the OUA. The Gaels (1-1) continue their road trip and travel to London, Ont. to play in another doubleheader next weekend (Sept. 20). They open against Western at 9:30am and then meet Toronto at 1:30pm.
