Kingston, Ont. (December 9, 2008) – The Queen's Gaels announced their schedule and game times for the 2009-10 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) football season on Tuesday. As part of the announcement and the holiday season, Queen's will be selling season ticket packages at 2008 prices until December 23rd.
Queen's season will kick-off on September 7th, 2009 with the Guelph Gryphons visiting Richardson Stadium to take on the Gaels in the their home opener. The Gaels hold a 9-2 advantage over the Gryphons since Guelph began play in 1973.
Five days later, Kingston football fans will be treated to another contest which sees McMaster return for its third-straight appearance in the limestone city. The Gaels have won the last two meetings against the Marauders and will look to extend that streak to three games on September 12.
In week three, Queen's will seek revenge against the Ottawa Gee-Gees, travelling to Frank Claire Stadium in Ottawa on September 19. Ottawa ended the Gaels perfect 2008 season with a 23-13 win in the OUA semi-final and Queen's with a travelling contingent of tri-colour fans will be looking for redemption.
The Gaels return home in week four when they host the York Lions at Richardson Stadium on September 26. Last year the Gaels posted 80 points in a lopsided victory against the Lions which was the most in the school's history.
Week five and six see the Gaels travel to southern Ontario for two matchups. First on October 3, the Gaels visit Windsor for the first time since the 2007 season where Queen's put a damper on a Windsor Homecoming posting a 38-3 win. A week later on October 10, Queen's will visit Waterloo for a Thanksgiving mix-up with the Warriors.
In week seven – with a game sure to have playoff implications – the Western Mustangs will visit Richardson Stadium on October 17. The Gaels were the only OUA team to beat Western in 2008 notching a decisive 43-16 win in front of 10,778 fans. This is a bitter rivalry which dates back to 1929 with Queen's holding a 38-34-2 regular season advantage over the Mustangs.
Closing the regular season, Queen's will return to Waterloo for the second time in 2009 visiting the perennial Yates Cup contenders Wilfred Laurier. In 2008, the Gaels knocked off the Golden Hawks 41-7 at home in week three.
OUA quarter-final playoffs are slated for Saturday, October 31 while the Semi-Final round is scheduled for November 7th. The 102nd Yates Cup will take place at the home of the highest-remaining seed on November 14.
In 2009, Queen's will not face the University of Toronto.
