Thomson gets hat-trick in Gaels Shutout victory

Kingston, Ont. (November 23, 2008) – Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont., scored three times as the Gaels defeated the Brock Badgers 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Kingston Memorial Centre.

Queen's would start the game off well hitting the net 13 times but only one would get past Badger goaltender Beth Clause of Hamilton. Thomson would open the scoring for the Gaels at the 18:40 mark of the first, Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont. and Becky Conroy of Pembroke, Ont. added the assists.

Kench and Thomson would connect again in the second to give the Gaels a 2-0 lead. Despite taking a two goal advantage Brock outshot Queen's 11-4 in the second but could not net one by Melissa John of Unionville, Ont.

John would stop all 27 shots she faced to record her first shutout of the season. Thomson would get the hat-trick  with an unassisted goal at 16:03 of the third while Conroy would score just 1:53 later to make the final 4-0.

Queen's record sits at 7-5-1 and host Western next Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 7:30pm.  They end the calendar year on Sunday against Windsor at 2:30pm. Both games will be played at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Tickets can be purchased by calling 613.532.2500.
