Toronto (November 1, 2008) – Queen's rattled off a 3-0 straight set victory on Saturday night against Ryerson, but the Rams pushed the Gaels to the limit in the final two sets.
Queen's would take the opening frame claiming a 25-18 set score. In the second set, Ryerson dug deep and pressed the Gaels throughout the match. The Gaels eventually won the second set 30-28. Following the marathon set, Queen's would go on to defeat the Rams 25-21.
Fifth-year Gael
Jeff DeMeza of Calgary would post 12 kills along with a defensive block to record 13 points in the win.
Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont. and
Niko Rukavina of Mississauga, ont. both had 12 points in the victory. Zeeman would post 6 kills on 21 total attacks while Rukavina had 9 kills on 14 total attacks.
Daniel Rosenbaum of Hamilton had 28 assists.
David Marynowicz of Hamilton was the Ram's leading scorer producing 14 points with nine kills against the Gaels.
Queen's now moves to 3-1 on the season and sits in third place in the OUA. Queen's will continue its road trip next weekend as the look to avenge their loss in the 2007-08 OUA Championship title game to the McMaster Marauders. They will play McMaster on Saturday evening and then move to Guelph on Sunday for a match against Guelph.
CORRECTION: Due to a scoring malfunction at the University of Toronto on October 31st. Stats and the game story were incorrectly published. The Gaels won the game 3-1 over Toronto and were led by Joren Zeeman (Cambridge, Ont.) and Niko Rukavina (Mississauga, Ont.) who both recorded 10 kills and 13 points. Bryan Fautley (Oakville, Ont.) had four kills and six blocks with a total of 12 points. Setter Daniel Rosenbaum (Hamilton, Ont.) had 31 assists in the win.
