Ridgebacks shock Gaels

Oshawa, Ont. (November 1st, 2008) – Queen's was dealt a surprising defeat on Saturday, as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) scored three consecutive first period goals to take their first win of the season.

The unexpected loss dropped Queen's record to 4-3-0-0. They are in fourth place tied with the Windsor Lancers.

The Gaels did manage two power play goals in the contest coming off the sticks of Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont. and Cassandra Sparks of Stoufville, Ont

Vanessa Johnston of Niagara Falls, Ont. was the Ridgebacks top scorer netting two goals in the game.

Gaels net minder Melissa John of Unionville, Ont. had an off night letting in four goals on 16 shots. She was replaced by Katie Boyd off Richmond Hill, Ont. after Johnston's second of the game. Boyd would finish making 13 saves and allowing just a single goal in the final half of the game.

Queen's has an off day scheduled for Sunday and will not compete until November 8 when they take on the Waterloo Warriors at 2pm in Waterloo.
