Oshawa, Ont. (November 15, 2008) - Queen`s exploded for three goals in the second period which was the difference as the Gaels defeated the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) 3-1 in women's hockey.
Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont., would notch her sixth goal of the season early in the second period to open the scoring for Queens. Thomson would then add her seventh of the season just 10 minutes later. Kerstin Van Bolderen of Medina, Ohio USA, would score her first goal of the season at 16:47 to give the Gaels a 3-0 going into the third.
UOIT scored their lone goal on a power play at 8:59 of the third when Megan Friel of Pickering, Ont. would score on
Katie Boyd of Richmond Hill, Ont. Boyd would deny the Ridgebacks the rest of the way to record her fourth win of the season turning away 24 shots. Queen's would also edge UOIT in shots 29-25.
The Gaels record moves to 5-4-1 and will take on the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
