Kingston, Ont. (October 31, 2008) – Queen's had quite a scare against winless Royal Military College (RMC) on Friday, but just like Halloween it was short lived as the Gaels defeated the Paladins 68-53.
RMC who have never won a game since entering the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) in 2003 kept pace with the Gaels most of the contest and pulled within six points of the Gaels heading into the fourth quarter. The Gaels would explode for 15 in the final frame while holding RMC to just six to earning the win.
RMC's losing streak now sits at 111 consecutive games. Queen's opens the season at 1-0.
Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., led the way for the Gaels with 25 points.
Anne Murphy of Milford, Ont. and
Alaina Porter of Burlington, Ont. netted nine points each for the tricolour.
RMC's top performers included Anna Dupuis of St. Andrews West, Ont. and Kim Egert of Westport, Ont. who combined for 33 of the team's 53 points.
Queen's will play in a two game exhibition set the remainder weekend, taking on Nazareth College on Saturday and McGill on Sunday in exhibition play. Queen's home-opener is on November 7th against the University of Waterloo.
