Brady Morrison of Thamesville, Ont. made 32 saves in a losing effort as the Western Mustangs edged the Queen's Gaels 2-0 in the season opener for men's hockey.
Mustangs Geoff Killing (Embro, Ont.) and Aaron Snow (Windsor, Ont.) scored while Brad Topping (Strathroy, Ont.) got the win in net making 20 saves for the shutout.
Queen's was 0 for 6 on the power play while Western did not convert any of their three power play opportunities. Western outshot the Gaels in all three frames posting a 15-9 shot tally in the first frame. Western held the advantage 10-5 in the second and then 9-6 in the third.
Queen's opens their home schedule on Friday night against the York Lions with the puck dropping at 7:30pm. Following that game, Queen's will host the University of Ontario Institute Of Technology (UOIT) at 2:30 on Saturday. Both games will be played at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
NOTES: Recruit Matt Hill of Creighton, Ont. left the game midway through the third period after suffering a broken ankle after being involved in a multi-person collision. It is not known how long Hill will be out of action.
