Pat Doyle two goal game
Guelph, Ont. (October 17, 2008) - Pat Doyle of Smiths Falls, Ont., scored twice as the Queen's Gaels defeated the Guelph Gryphon's 4-3 on Friday.  The win evened the Gaels record to 2-2 and vaulted them into a first place tie of the OUA Mid East division with Toronto.

Doyle opened what turned into a scoring frenzy for the Gaels which saw Queen's net three goals in less than two minutes midway through the first period.  Doyle scored at the 8:00 minute mark of the first while David Chubb of St. George, Nfld., would register his first of the season at 9:12.  Forty seconds later, Jarrod Thomson of Hamilton made the score 3-0 beating Guelph's starting goalie Andrew Arklie of Dugald, Man.

Guelph responded late in the first period (17:58) on the power play when Kris Belan of Florence, Ont. netted his second goal of the season beating Brady Morrison of Thamesville to make the score 2-1. Doyle was the lone scorer in the second period and it looked as if the Gaels would record an easy victory with the score sitting 4-2 heading into the third period.

The Gryphon's however had different ideas, storming out of the gate putting up 19 shots in the third period with Queen's managing only five.  The effort earned them two goals, but it wasn't enough as Morrison made several key saves in the final minutes to ice the comeback. In all Morrison made 31 saves to record his second victory of the year.  The final shot totals were listed as 34-19 in favour of Guelph.

Guelph's top scorer was David Volpe of Bolton, Ont. who registered a goal and an assist for two points.

Tomorrow Queen's (2-2) will travel to St. Catharines to battle the Brock Badgers (1-1). Puck drops at 7:35pm.
