Kingston, Ont. ( October 10, 2008) - Queen's had not forgotten that Brock defeated them in the OUA Championship last season 22-6. This was fuel for the Gaels as they defeated the Brock Badgers 34-20 in regular season action Friday afternoon.
Going into the game Queen's and Brock found themselves atop the OUA East with Gaels taking the top spot with a record of 3-0-1 and Brock right behind them in second with a 3-1-0 record.
Brock and Queen's would have another classic battle as the game went back and forth for the first half with Queen's taking the lead into the half 15-13.
Queen's would dominate the line-outs and capitalize on a deflated Brock team in the second half.
Scott Kyle of Singapore broke the defensive line and ran half the field to give the Gaels the a comfortable lead in the second half.
Brock charged back late but the Queen's defense held the Badgers out of the end zone. The Gaels would hold on for the victory and secure the top spot in the OUA East.
Queen's played a complete team game relying on an numerous players throughout the game as all five tries for the Gaels came from five different players. Scorers included Grahame Whatt of Richmond Hill, Ont., Alistar Clark of Oakville, Ont.,
Graeme Dibden of Edmonton, Alta.,
Colin Alexander of Hockessin, Delaware as well as
Scott Kyle.
With the win Queen's improves their record to 4-0-1 and secure first place in the OUA East with only one game left in the regular season. Queen's will host the Royal Military College (RMC) next Saturday, October 18th at Kingston Field. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
