Matt Hulse of Harington, Ont., won a gold and two silver medals at the OUA Track and Field Championship over the weekend in Toronto.  His performance marks the first time a Queen’s athlete has collected three medals at the same OUA Track & Field Championship and also qualifies him in three events at the CIS Championship hosted by Windsor from March 12-14.

Hulse raced to a golden time of three-minutes and 52.23 second to reclaim his OUA title in the 1,500m which he also won in 2007-08.  Last year he did not defend his title as he studied abroad in an exchange program.

In the men’s 1,000 metre race – he finished second to Toronto Varsity Blues’ Michael Del Monte of Guelph, Ont., by just 33-hundreths of a second.  Del Monte used a York University Field House record to surge past Hulse in the dying 150m.  To cap his trio of medals, Hulse teamed with Clay Patterson of Elgin, Ont., Joshua Potvin of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Michael Nishiyama of Edmonton in the men’s 4x800m race to finish second.
