Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsville, Ont., backstopped the Queen’s Gaels to a bronze medal in their first-ever appearance at the CIS women’s hockey championship this past weekend. The second year biology major was spectacular in all three games for the Gaels, leading Queen’s to a 2-1 shootout win in their opener against the defending champion Alberta Pandas in which she stopped 34 shots and all three Pandas shooters in the shootout. Following a 3-1 loss to the eventual gold medal winning McGill Martlets, in which she stopped 32 of the 35 shots she faced, Dodd-Moher would record her first playoff shutout against Laurier in the bronze medal game. The sophomore netminder made 33 saves for the win and was named to the tournament all-star team after posting a tournament-best 1.27 GAA and a 0.961SV%.
