KINGSTON, Ont. (September 8, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels football team is on a bye this week but took time to get out in the community for educational school visits on Friday.
Throughout the morning of Friday, September 8, football players visited eight different elementary schools across Kingston speaking about their experiences as a student-athlete and the importance of having a growth mindset.
"The Kingston community shows us so much love and support," said offensive lineman
Emilio Frometa. "We love getting out into the Kingston community and giving back whenever we can."
Having a growth mindset means that no matter where you are now, you can always improve with effort, good strategies and help. Gaels athletes were able to share personal stories about their athletic and academic experiences where having a growth mindset allowed them to overcome barriers in order to be successful.
The players then put the students through a series of fun football drills and games.
"Having grown up in Kingston, it's really special to be able to visit local schools and make a positive impact," commented
Nick Dowd on the experience.
The players will now turn their focus to the Saturday September 16 matchup when the defending Yates Cup champion Laurier Golden Hawks visit Richardson Stadium. The game kicks off at 1 pm at Richardson Stadium, kids 12 and under receive free admission all season.
