Two Queen's Gaels men's hockey players will be off to National Hockey League (NHL) rookie camps this weekend as Gaels goaltender
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) heads to the Ottawa Senators camp and incoming rookie defenceman Nathan Billitier (Spencerport, NY) attends the Columbus Blue Jackets rookie camp.
"Getting to attend the Ottawa Senators camp and play in the NHL Rookie Tournament is something I'm very much looking forward to," said Bailie who is entering his fifth year as a Gael. "It's a great opportunity personally, and a great showcase of the development that happens both at Queen's University and in U SPORTS as a whole. I also can't thank the Queen's Faculty of Law enough for the continued support allowing me to take on these endeavours."
Bailie is one of the most decorated men's hockey athletes in program history. In the spring, Bailie was awarded the Queen's Athletics Jenkins Trophy as the top male senior student-athlete. An All-Canadian in his third year and a two-time OUA All-Star, Bailie took the league by storm since his first year. This past season he helped lead the Gaels to a franchise best 18 wins and program best No.3 national ranking. The Gaels finished with an OUA silver after earning their way back to the Queen's Cup and University Cup for the first time since 1981. Bailie was also a member of team Canada at this year's FISU games in Kazakhstan where he won a bronze medal.
Billitier is a former Kingston Frontenac and will be entering his first year at Queen's studying science. The 5'11 defenceman played in 61 games for the Frotnenacs last season, registering four goals and 10 assists for 14 points.
