Queen's Sailing dominates at McGill Invitational

The Queen's Sailing Team traveled to Montreal this past weekend to compete at the McGill Invitational along with nine other CICSA teams.

Gaels skipper Zac Baum and Crew Julia Manarin sailed in A Division, while James Juhasz and Jessica Mackay made their collegiate debuts sailing in B Division.

Saturday brought 3-6 knots of wind and a strong current. Queen's ended the day in 1st place, 10 points ahead of 2nd place McMaster University with multiple first and second place finished for Gaels A and B Division sailors.

Sunday brought more breeze, with 6-10 knots from the south-west. A bit more breeze allowed Queen's to dominate both divisions, with the A Division Gaels sailors taking 1st place in all four races, and the Queen's B Division team posting two 1st place finishes over six races.

Finishing the event well ahead of the 2nd place team, Queen's continues to solidify their hold on the Canadian circuit for the 2017 season.

North Fall Regatta

Additional to the McGill Invitational, Queen's sailors Scott Gittens, Marc de Verteuil, Lauren Sullivan and Ben Halverson travelled to Ithaca, NY to compete in the annual North Fall Regatta hosted by Cornell University this past weekend.

The wind was light for the duration of the regatta resulting in 4 hour postponements on Saturday and Sunday. After the first day of sailing, Queen's was in great position, at 3rd out of 16 teams after winning a protest against Fordham.

By the next day, the wind picked up 8 knots. However, the Gaels encountered some trouble with two protests and fell to 6th position to close out the regatta.
