Queen’s Athletics and varsity athletes donate 540 lbs of food for Kingston’s Partners in Mission Food Bank

KINGSTON (December 4, 2017) – Together with the Queen's University Department of Athletics & Recreation (A&R), the Queen's Varsity Leadership Council (VLC)  collected cans of food from Gaels athletes for the Partners in Mission Food Bank during the annual Athlete BBQ earlier this year.

Hosted by Queen's Athletics & Recreation at the ARC, the Athlete BBQ celebrated the opening of the 2017-18 varsity season. The VLC used the gathering as an opportunity for community outreach and collected food donations from fellow Queen's athletes.

The VLC is a student-athlete organization, including both clubs and team representatives. As a council, the VLC speaks on behalf of the Queen's student-athletes and aims to promote a positive image of Queen's Athletics by building relations with Kingston communities through volunteer opportunities and outreach programs such as the Partners in Mission Food Bank initiative.

The Partners in Mission Food Bank of Kingston works to provide nourishment and hope to families in need within the community. Monetary and food donations help to nourish local families by providing groceries through the food hamper program. Being the food distribution centre for the Kingston area, the Partners in Mission Food Bank also donates surplus provisions to over twenty local hot meal and shelter programs in the Kingston area.

In total, the VLC collected and donated 540 lbs of food for Kingston's Partners in Mission Food Bank that will go towards local families during the holiday season.
