The Gaels women's rugby team are set to start the 2016 season at home on Saturday, September 10, against the Trent Excalibur. After falling short in the OUA bronze medal game, Queen's hosted the 2015 CIS Championship, where they upset No.1 Acadia and No.5 Concordia en route to a CIS silver medal.

Coming off their best result at a CIS Championship, the Gaels are poised for another great season under head coach Beth Barz, who is entering her 12th season at the helm. Familiar faces on the Queen's roster will include OUA Russell Division All-Star Pippi McKay (Toronto), who had a standout rookie season in 2015.

With some key transfers and recruits, plus a returning roster with ample CIS Championship experience, the Gaels are ready to be in medal contention again come playoff time.

Quote from the head coach:
"We've seen a level of commitment from our athletes that is remarkable this early in the season. The offseason was a chance to continue to connect and to develop a fairly young squad. Our team is focussed and ready to challenge for OUA and CIS medals this year."
