Football Preview - Gaels host Toronto Saturday at 1pm on Think Pink Weekend

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 21, 2016) - The Gaels most storied rivalry will be renewed on Saturday at 1pm when Queen's (0-3) hosts the Toronto Varsity Blues (1-3) in the revitalized Richardson Stadium on Think Pink weekend. Get your tickets to see the Gaels in person, or watch the game live on OUA.tv.

The Queen's Varsity Leadership Council is encouraging everyone to "Think Pink" this weekend. Gaels student-athletes are raising money for the CIBC Run for the Cure, and ask that donations be made on their team webpage.

In this year's football game, the rivalry is about more than the 176 regular season and playoff games between the two teams: Gaels quarterback Nate Hobbs (Mississauga, Ont.) faces off against his brother, Varsity Blues quarterback Marcus Hobbs.

The Gaels enter Saturday's game looking for their first win of the season and their first win in the revitalized Richardson Stadium. Last weekend against No.4 Western, Gaels quarterback Nate Hobbs threw for 244 yards and was the team's leading rusher with 64 yards on the ground. Rookie kicker Nick Liberatore (Dartmouth, N.S.) scored all 13 Queen's points in last weekend's loss, hitting four field goals, including a CIS personal best 46 yarder, and one rouge. On defence, Mike Moore (Mississauga, Ont.) and Wesley Mann (Almonte, Ont.) had eight solo tackles each. Moore finished the game with 10.5 total tackles and a forced fumble, while Mann had 10 total tackles.

The Varsity Blues also started 2016 at 0-3, but without a bye week yet this season, the team from Toronto earned their first victory of the regular season last weekend at home, 45-18 against York. Toronto quarterback Marcus Hobbs only needed 210 passing yards in the win to pick up a pair of touchdowns, and also contributed a trio of rushing touchdowns with 70 yards on the ground. Leading rusher Alex Malone ran for 171 yards, while Anthony Naccarato had 115 yards as the top receiver. Toronto's leading tackler Adrian Bernard added 5.5 total tackles to his season total of 25, including a sack and two tackles for a loss last weekend.
