KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's cycling team won the University Cup title this weekend after closing out their season at the Ganaraska Cycling Trail just outside of Peterborough, Ontario. With the championship the Gaels have now won seven straight championships in Cycling.
The Queen's Varsity Cycling Team concluded their mountain bike season October 2 bringing home the provincial title for the seventh year in a row. The cycling team is in the midst of a golden era, being unmatched by rival schools both in Canada and the United States.
Queen's comfortably took the overall team victory with strong performances from both veterans and rookies. Cole Schumacher (First Year, Commerce) took the overall Men's A victory, Hannah Simms (Second Year, PheKin) took the overall Women's A victory and Caroline Wiseheart (fourth year, Civil Engineering) narrowly won the Women's B title.
With another successful mountain bike season completed, the cycling team now looks forward to their upcoming road cycling season in March where they hope to dominate the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference, a series in the United States.
With many athletes on the cycling team graduating this year, it will be more difficult to bring home the title next September, but captains Blake Bogden and Patrick Farrell have full confidence they will deliver.
