Kingston, Ont. (October 19, 2016) - The Queen's football team (3-4) hosts the No.9 Ottawa Gee-Gees (5-2) in the last home game of the inaugural season at the revitalized Richardson Stadium on Saturday at 1pm.

The Gaels are headed into the final week of the regular season in a battle for the sixth and final spot in the OUA playoffs. As it sits right now, the tricolour have sole possession of sixth place in the conference standings, so a win against Ottawa guarantees Queen's at least one more week of football. A loss on Saturday doesn't necessarily extinguish the Gaels playoff hopes, but the tricolour would need help from Windsor, York, and Guelph, who are all looking up at Queen's from a tie for seventh at 2-5.
Â
This weekend will see the Gaels best pass defence in the OUA faceoff with the Gee-Gees best pass offence in the conference. Queen's has allowed an average of just 165.4 yards per game this season, while Ottawa throws for nearly 400 yards per game. Saturday's showdown will be a real tests for both sides.
Â
Queen's is fresh off their biggest win of the season in a must-win game against Windsor, topping the Lancers 55-5 at the Gaels Homecoming. The tricolour defence had another good day on Saturday, limiting Windsor to only nine first downs and 131 yards of total offence. Queen's also scored their first defensive touchdown of the season, with
Wesley Mann (Almonte, Ont.) returning his conference-leading fifth interception of the season 60 yards to score.
Nate Hobbs (Mississauga, Ont.) threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns, going 13/18 for only five incompletions and no turnovers.
Matteo Del Brocco (Leamington, Ont.) caught two of Hobbs touchdown passes and recorcded a season high of over 100 yards receiving. On the ground,
Jonah Pataki (Wallaceburg, Ont.) ran for over 130 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, before giving way to Queen's second and third string running backs.

Ottawa suffered their second loss of the season last weekend at home against Western. The 68-17 loss is the worst of the Gee-Gees season, but their high-powered pass offence still managed nearly 250 yards. Ottawa quarterback Derek Wendel threw for a season-low 228 yards in the loss, but remains the top passer in the OUA by a longshot. With 371.3 passing yards per game, Wendel is almost 100 yards better than the second place passer in the conference. The Gee-Gees pivot is also tops in touchdowns, completions, attempts, and completion percentage. Ottawa's offence also boasts the top receiver in the league, as Mitchell Baines is first in the OUA in yards per game, receptions, and touchdowns.
