Gaels welcome top Canadian teams to the Queen's Invitational Tournament

Kingston, Ont. (September 16, 2015) - The women's hockey team hosts UBC at 7:30pm on Friday, McGill at 4:00pm on Saturday, and Montreal at 12:00pm on Sunday at the Queen's Invitational Tournament this weekend, with all games to be played at the Invista Centre.

Queen's plays UBC in their first game of the tournament, with the puck drop set for 7:30pm on Friday. This will be the first matchup against the Thunderbirds since they last met each other in the 2013 CIS Championships consolation game where UBC defeated the Gaels 2-1.
The consolation final game came down to the wire, but the Gaels were not able to notch an equalizer late in the game with UBC hanging on for the win to finish 5th.

In their second game of the tournament the Gaels will face McGill, with the puck drop set for 4pm on Saturday., Last year the Gaels earned a 3-2 overtime victory in their second game of the Queen's Invitational against the 2014 CIS Champion McGill Martlets. Fiona Lester (Peterborough, Ont.) buried the overtime winner for Queen's.

The final game of the tournament for the Gaels will be against the University of Montreal, with the puck drop set for 12pm on Sunday. Queen's met Montreal in the last game of the Queen's Invitational last year as well where Montreal won 3-0 against the Gaels. The Gaels finished the Queen's Invitational with a 2-1-0 record. Caitlyn Lahonen (Sharon, Ont.) was in net for Queen's as she accumulated a 0.945 save percentage and 1.67 goals against average.

As all four teams finished last season ranked in the CIS top 10, with UBC at No.7, the Gaels at No.6, Montreal at No.2, and McGill at No.1, the Queen's Invitational Tournament is sure to feature a high caliber of play. McGill took home a Silver Medal in the CIS Championships as they lost to Western 5-0 in the final. Montreal won the Bronze Medal at the CIS Championships defeating St. Francis Xavier 2-1. UBC lost 2-1 to the Univeristy of Manitoba in a best of three series in the Canada West playoff semifinals.  The Gaels were defeated 2-0 in the OUA playoff quarterfinals in a best of three series.
