Des Roche and Christie to represent Canada at FISU Games in Rowing

This summer, Canadian University's most talented rowers will represent Canada at the FISU Games in Gwangju, South Korea, July 3 to 14, 2015.  The 2015 Universiade is a multisport event in which rowing has been a part since 1984.  This year the regatta will take place on Chungju Tangeum Lake, site of the 2013 World Rowing Championships.

The Gaels are represented by Chloe DesRoche (Calgary) and Matt Christie (Ottawa). DesRoche will be competing in the women's four along with Emily Jago – Laurentian University
Elizabeth McConnell – University of Victoria, and Jessie Loutit – Western University while Christie will compete with Matt Fournier – Carleton University in the lightweight men's double scull.

Pete Somerwil, president of the Canadian University Rowing Association (CURA) says 'After an extensive selection process, we feel that we've put together competitive crews and look forward to bringing home medals earned by Canadian University student-athletes.  These athletes from Universities coast to coast have not only committed to the training but are funding themselves to represent their country'.

Once selected, the women's program was hosted by the University of Western Ontario Boat Club.  The heavyweight men and lightweight men's sweep program was hosted by Brock University Rowing Club, and the lightweight men's sculling program hosted by Ottawa Rowing Club. The CURA and Canadian Interuniversity Sport have worked closely to ensure the success of the program.
