Gaels open weekend schedule with loss to Brock

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (October 22, 2015)- Coming off a weekend sweep in their annual Tindall Invitational Tournament, the Queen's Gaels women's basketball team had their three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday evening at Bob Davis Gymnasium, falling to the Brock Badgers 68-56 to open their final weekend of preseason games.

Sophomore guard Marianne Alarie recorded a game-high of 18 points in a losing cause for the Gaels. The Sudbury, Ont. native shot an impressive 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and was the only Queen's player to hit a three-point shot and reach double-digits on the scoreboard. As a team, the Gaels shot 35.3% and were 3-of-22 overall from three-point land, while outrebounding the host Badgers 47-40.

Queen's, who now boast a preseason record of 6-3, jumped out to an 8-point lead after the opening quarter, but were unable to maintain a potent offence throughout the remaining three quarters, totalling just 37 points compared to 19 in the first. The Badgers, meanwhile, significantly chopped into the Gael advantage leading up to halftime before outscoring the visitors 25-10 in the third quarter to take a double-digit lead into the final period. Melissa Tatti tallied 12 points for the Badgers, who shot 39.7% overall and limited Queen's to 12 points in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory.

The Gaels continue their final road trip of the preseason on Friday evening when they head to Hamilton to take on the McMaster Marauders before concluding their weekend at Guelph on Saturday night. Both games tip-off at 6:00 p.m.

Queen's opens up the regular season at home on Saturday, November 7 against the York Lions.
