Christian Hoefler named Queen's men's soccer head coach

KINGSTON, Ont. (August 14, 2014) – Queen's Athletics & Recreation is proud to announce that Christian Hoefler will serve as the Gaels men's soccer head coach for the 2014 season.

Hoefler comes to the Gaels from the Ottawa Fury Football Club where he has served as head coach from 2007 and has his Canadian Soccer Association National "B" coaching license and is a member of the Coaching Association of Canada.

"I find it extremely difficult to find the words to fully express the excitement I feel with this new opportunity," said Hoefler on the announcement.  "I am truly blessed to be working at such an established institution within a well respected athletic program.  University soccer is exhilarating and a top rated sport full of intelligence, passion, and tradition.  I am eager to begin working with our student-athletes to achieve success in the OUA."

A former player himself, Hoefler competed nationally representing Ontario at the 1996 U15's where he captured a national championship. In 1997 he served as the U18 men's captain for Ontario which also led to a spot on the Men's U17 National Team where he represented Canada at the CONCACAF qualifiers in San Salvador, El Salvador.

Joining Hoefler as assistant coaches are former Gaels Scott Compeau, who returns for his second year with the team, and Daniel McBride who joins Queen's for his first season in a coaching capacity.

The Gaels begin training camp this week and welcome St. Thomas Aquinas for an exhibition game this Sunday at 1pm on Tindall Field. The Gaels this year will host the Old Four exhibition series welcoming McGill, Western and Toronto to Kingston Saturday August 23 and Sunday August 24.

The Gaels open their regular season on Sunday August 31 at 4pm as they visit cross-town rivals RMC before welcoming Carleton for their home opener on Wednesday September 3 at 2pm.
