KINGSTON , Ont. - A gold medal for the lightweight men's four crew highlighted a strong performance for the Gaels at the Canadian University Rowing Championship, held last weekend in Burnaby, B.C. The crew of
Chris Zakos, Jordan Rendell, Pat McCrady,
Matt Christie and coxswain
Jacob Koudys won their event with a time of 6:33.89, two seconds ahead of their closest challengers from the University of Victoria.
Overall, the Gaels men's team finished in fifth place out of 20 teams, with 56 points, while the women were fourth out of 20 teams, with 73 points. UVic was the overall winner on the women's side, while Brock won the men's team gold.
Christie, who had won gold in the fours, went on to race in the lightweight men's single, placing fourth in a time of 7:29.19.

Stephen Tuffner placed fifth in their race, edging the sixth place boat from McGill out by a bow ball. In the men's single, Locke Davenport-Huyer placed fourth in the B final, in a time of 7:49.27.
The OUA winning women's eight with
Emily Home,
Elise Hoffmann, Liz Price,
Michelle Truax, Chloe Des Roche,
Emily Jewell, Tory Graham, Larkin Davenport-Huyer, and coxswain
Sean Whitehall, won a silver medal with a time of 6:42.62, 2.5 seconds behind the winning crew from UVic. Hoffman also placed second in the B final for the single, and later raced the pair with Home, placing sixth.
The lightweight women's four with Flurry Hogg, Jen Johnston,
Kelsey Hayes,
Anise Truman and coxswain
Lindsey Wilson placed third, behind Western and UBC, in a time of 7:31.69. Hogg and Johnston also raced the double, placing fourth. Truman placed fifth in the B final of the singles.
