KINGSTON, Ont. (January 9, 2012) – Queen's Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce that men's volleyball player
Will Sidgwick of Toronto and women's basketball player
Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. have been named TELUS Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 8.
Sidgwick had a career weekend for the Gaels as one of the top attackers in their weekend double header against the Guelph Gryphons and Waterloo Warriors. Against the Gryphons, Sidgwick tied his career high for kills with 17 on 40 attacks for a kill percentage of .225. Defensively he added five digs and three assisted blocks. In Sunday's win over the Warriors, Sidgwick continued his stellar play. The third year hitter recorded 15 kills on 39 attacks and two service aces as an attacker. Defensively he topped his Saturday performance with 10 digs and a solo block.
Moore continues to move up the OUA record book as her weekend performance moved her into sole possession of fifth on the OUA's leaderboard for Most Points in a Career. With a 20 point performance against the Ryerson Rams, Moore needed only a single point to break her tie with former York Lion Laura MacCallum and move into the top five scorers all-time. Her 14 point performance against the Toronto Varsity Blues was more than enough to push her past MacCallum and into fifth. Moore's 20 points against Ryerson on Saturday led all scorers in the contest and led the Gaels to a 74-58 victory over the Rams.
