Gaels Shoot for the Cure raises over $3,000

| By:
The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team took part in their annual Shoot for the Cure game on Saturday where the team raised funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Last season the Gaels raised over $1,000 for the charity and thanks to a generous donation from Enterprise Rent-A-Car the team managed to raise over $3,000 dollars towards the cause this year.

As part of the fundraiser, employees from Enterprise Rent-A-Car took on members of the Queen's Gaels men's rugby team in a free throw shooting competition at halftime. Enterprise Rent-A-Car donated one dollar for every basket made including an extra dollar for every basket made by the winning team. The final was 21-17 for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The men's rugby team raises money for the CIBC Run for the Cure every fall.

Head coach Dave Wilson contributed a dollar for every point scored in the game, with fans and family members matching the generous contribution.

"It is a great privilege for our program to be able to contribute and incite others to contribute to such a worthwhile cause as Breast Cancer Research," said head coach Wilson.  "An initiative from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, our goal is to raise over $100,000 across the country, so thanks to all those who are helping us to reach this goal."

The Gaels finished the game with a 75-69 win over the visiting York Lions, their second win in as many nights. The team now sits at 7-5 on the season which puts them in a tie for third place in the OUA East division. The Gaels play the first of five straight road games when they travel to Ottawa on Friday to take on the Carleton Ravens.
