LUCERNE, Switzerland (July 8, 2010) –Rowing Canada has announced the crews that will be competing for Canada in the upcoming World Cup event in Switzerland this weekend and the boats include five former and current Queen's Gaels team members.
On the women's team,
Katya Herman of Sudbury, Ont., will be competing in the lightweight doubles while Isolda Penney of Kingston, Ont., will compete in the heavyweight singles.
On the men's side,
Morgan Jarvis of Kingston, Ont., and Mike Wilkinson of Vancouver, B.C., will compete in the fours event while Rares Crisan of Mississauga, Ont., competes in the lightweight doubles.
"We've been over in Europe for a couple of weeks now, training and competing at British Henley, so the crews are anxious to race at this World Cup against the best the rowing world has to offer," said Peter Cookson, High Performance Director for Rowing Canada. "Lucerne is known as the top international racing opportunity next to the Worlds or Olympics, so we're excited to see where our crews stand."
The draw for the World Cup event will be posted at
www.worldrowing.com today. Racing begins Friday and continues through to the finals on Sunday.
