KINGSTON, Ont. (May 21, 2010) – Over 80 local high school soccer all-stars will be showcased during the fifth annual Greg Hulse Memorial set for Saturday, May 29 at Richardson Stadium on campus at Queen's University.
Two games featuring senior boys and girls soccer players from the Kingston Area Secondary School Athletic Association (KASSAA) will make up the event. The men's game kicks off beginning at 1:00pm with the girls set for 3:00pm
Both games will be played in honour of Greg Hulse, an alumnus of Kingston's Holy Cross High School and a former member of Queen's Soccer, who died tragically in a car accident in June 2005.
“Greg was a truly remarkable young man. He had a positive impact on both his coaches and teammates,” said event chair and Hulse's former coach Al MacVicar.” We are thrilled that we are able to honour him by showcasing a game that he loved to play. The event has been very well received over the last few years and we are looking forward to another great day of soccer action.”
In addition to honouring Greg's memory, monies raised from the event will support an Athletic Financial Award for a future student on a Queen's soccer team.
Three to four players will be selected to participate in the game from each high-school team. The teams from KASSAA will be split into a north and a south division and be coached by representing high school coaches.
Prior to the game, both teams will participate in a training session conducted by Queen's varsity soccer players from both the men's and women's teams. This training session will run from 9:00am until 10:00am.
In addition to the two all-star matches, there will also be two 50-50 draws and other raffles.
Admission to games will be $5 for adults, $3 for high school students and $2 for children between ages 5-12. Children under 5 will be admitted free of charge. Tickets will be available on game day at the gate.
Last year, the south side took both matches with Chloe Lowry of Loyalist Collegiate & Vocational Institute scoring the lone goal for the south to capture the girls portion of the game. Reid Levac of Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School netted the game winner on the men's side to secure the south sweep.
